Learn about a new paradigm of addiction recovery, where people in treatment are encouraged to seek connection with other to stimulate the parts of the brain that were activated by drugs and alcohol and other intoxicants. In this course, students will learn about how language can transform the shame around being in recovery and self-esteem, the limits of 12 step methods, a brief introduction to attachment theory, and how learning listening skills can help people feel the sense of connection they are seeking through substance abuse and decrease their likelihood of relapse.

This course is taught by Jennifer Nicholaisen, executive Director of SeekHealing. The SeekHealing project is a community-sourced treatment model that empowers people to heal from trauma rather than achieve certain outcomes through free support services to any stage in the addiction healing process.
